DECOY FOLK ART AT ITS FINEST! An Outstanding Redbreasted Merganser Drake Decoy

The decoy has an inletted neck along with incised wing and tail feather detail. It has an open bill with inserted clamshell. Strong original paint. Repair to roughly half of both bottom snd upper bills, as almost all Witherspoon mergansers.

Witherspoon mergansers were discovered by Dr. George Ross Starr Jr. and featured in his book, "Decoys of the Atlantic Flyway," New York, NY, 1974, p. 53 and 56, pl. 2 and 14.

A well-known carver of contemporary decoys added, "This is one fabulous hen merganser. It is in the top 3 of all time in my opinion. The slot head is out of this world!"
