Skillfully carved and exceptionally hollow. Laminated vertically. Dry original condition with painstaking paint detail. Original paint and bill. Strongly attributed to Joseph Lincoln's best work. Ex. Joe French collection.

Unusual species: sanderling, least sandpiper, and semi-palmated plover. Unused original condition. Each carries the Strater & Sohier name and 1874 patent date.

Mason Glasseye Passenger Pigeon in Immature Plumage
Ca. 1900

Rare example in strong original paint with deep feather swirling. Minor restoration of a sliver on the base. Large size and rose colored breast suggest an immature passenger pigeon. Less than a half dozen are known. Pictured "Mason Decoys," page 119.

Silhouette style carving with carved split tail. Exhibits Crowell's finest original paint. Minor flaking on one side of the bill. Exactly like the Crowell full-bodied runner sold at auction in Nov. 09 for $40,000. Signed by Crowell in ink on its base.

Delicate rigmates with tiny carved split tails. Excellent original condition with their original baleen bills. Never used. Fitted with two wire legs instead of a stick hole which was plugged when made. One has a tight age shrinkage neck crack.

Mason Challenge Blue-Winged Teal Drake and Hen Decoy Pair

A rigmate pair in strong original paint. Hen has some flaking behind the neck. Neck filler has been replaced and there is a tiny tail flake repair on the drake. Exceptionally rare! Similar to the examples shown in "Mason Decoys," page 59.

Hollow rigged and weighted gunning decoys in nearly mint original condition. Drake has a tiny tail chip. Exhibiting Grayson's best feather comb painting with a dry, mellow patina. Signed with his carved "C" and branded Assawoman Is. (gunning club).
