Set of 4 Painted Decorated Windsor Thumback Side Chairs
Maine, Ca. 1820-30

Thumback, arrowback Windsors with shaped seat and bamboo turned legs. Black and red graining with green and yellow trim combined with hand-painted floral and leaf decoration on the top rail. Full height and excellent original condition.

Seat height 17 3/4"; seat width 15 1/2"; overall 34 1/2".

Thin stock white pine with dovetailed construction and original snipe hinges. Decoration is exceptionally detailed using a variety of skillful sponging, drawing and scratching techniques. Pristine original condition with no alterations or repairs.

Classic Hudson flyer form in superb original condition. Strong original paint with scratch feathering. Tiny in-the-making wing tip chips. Wings were a bit loose and have been stablized.

Oscar Peterson, Cadillac, MI, Ca. 1935

Untouched original condition with paint shrinkage on the board only. Fish has exceptional paint detail and no crazing. Exhibits Peterson's characteristic tin straps on the back. See Fritz's "Oscar Peterson" book, pages 78-80.
